Post graduate training is being offered to 4 candidates every year. As PEC is also associated with VIIO, the Post Graduate students have exposure to high volume of surgeries and the latest state of the art diagnostic devices at both institutes.
NEURO-OPHTHALMOLOGY FELLOWSHIP
This fellowship is designed for ophthalmologists who have completed their residency and are eager to deepen their expertise in managing a wide range of complex and intriguing neuro-ophthalmology cases. Through structured clinical exposure, mentorship, and hands-on training, participants will gain the advanced skills and confidence necessary to excel in this challenging and evolving subspecialty.

Our Neuro-ophthalmology fellowship is a comprehensive, hands-on training program designed for medical Ophthalmologists seeking in-depth specialization and leadership in their field. Department of Cornea/Glaucoma/Medial retina/Uvea and ocular Inflammation
KEY LEARNING AREAS : 1. Interpretation of neuroimaging, OCT, visual fields, VEP and other imaging modalities 2. Management of headache, ocular pain 3. Management of diplopia, cranial nerve palsies, nystagmus and other ocular motility disorders 4. Management of optic nerve and afferent pathway disorders 5. Management of pupillary abnormalities 6. Management of ocular conditions associated with systemic diseases like Myasthenia, Multiple sclerosis 7. Management of unexplained visual loss, functional vision loss 8. Research methodology, data analysis, and academic writing 9. Teaching Ophthalmology residents
PROGRAM STRUCTURE : • Clinical Training: Primary postings in department of Neuro-Ophthalmology and strabismus in Prabha eye clinic and research centre. • Attending Neuro-ophthalmology OPD, managed by our institution, at NIMHANS and IGICH . • Specialised observer ship postings in department of Neurology and neuroradiology at NIMHANS and ancillary postings in IGICH. • Supervised patient care, case discussions, grand rounds, and rotations across departments. • Didactic Sessions: Regular academic lectures, journal clubs, and case based discussions. • Research Component: Fellows are expected to complete at least one original research project or case series during the fellowship period. • Mentorship: One-on-one guidance from faculty mentors and regular progress evaluations.

DNB Course:
The selected candidates undergo an orientation programme and are posted in both the hospitals on rotation. They undergo training in all the departments related to Ophthalmology like Cornea, Retina, Paediatric, Uvea, Glaucoma, Refractive, Cataract, Neuro-ophthalmology, Community Ophthalmology, Low Vision Aids, Ocular Oncology, Ocular Prosthesis. The candidates are posted under particular consultants in each department for personalised training for the entire duration of their course.
Wet Lab and Surgical Training:
Prior to performing independent surgeries, the students are encouraged to enhance their skills by utilising the wet lab facilities that are available. Once the students grasp the basics, then they are encouraged to screen and operate patients under the guidance of a specialist. Initially cataract surgeries are taught, followed by various other surgeries.
On completion of the course, the student will be reasonably confident in performing EECE, SICS and steps of Phacoemulsification surgery.
Clinical Exposure in OPD:
The DNB trainees are encouraged to work up cases in the OPD and in the process are given access to handle and learn about various diagnostic equipment like Digital Slit Lamp Photography, FFA, ICGA, OCT, B Scan, UBM, ITracey, Pentacam, Contoura Vision Planning, Verion Training, IOL Master 700, Lenstar, Corneal topography, Anterion, Lipiview, Specular Microscopy, Visual Field Analyzer etc. They are also training in handling retinal lasers and YAG Laser.
Eye Bank:
The post graduates are actively involved in procuring donor cornea for corneal transplant procedures. They are also involved in various eye donation programmes, screening camps and camps aimed at creating awareness on general eye health.
Teaching Programme:
Case presentations, Seminars, Journal Clubs are held at regular intervals. Thesis topics are given to the candidates and they are guided at regular intervals by the Thesis guide. The DNB students are also encouraged to participate in CME, conferences, seminars and present papers. They are given due recognition for their published research work.
Summary:
Duration: 2 years for Post DO, 3 years for post MBBS
Stipend: As determined by NBE

DNB Programme: On enrolling for the post graduate DNB Programme at our hospital, the trainee will have exposure to formal teaching, hands on experience with wet lab and surgical OT. Will be well versed with the latest advances in Ophthalmology and involved in community ophthalmic care. This ensures an overall development at all levels.
